  5. when

working at thermotron , Daniel J O’keefe said when the manager gives a review — find something that you can blame on the employee and make a big deal about it..

if the employee complains about the evualation– then — lie to him and tell the employee that you will review the employee again in 6 months– (but you won’t really)

remind the employee that “people don’t work here for the money, but for the “experience”

  6. yes at thermotron

it is a requirement to be a good liar and deceiver– when i asked for a Job description at called that out– they started to say “YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM”

2.. the next step is “YoU DON”T GET ALONG WITH PEOPLE”

    3.  then — they accuse you of disparaging your co -workers and that you think you are better then them

    4.  then they attack you by saying that your work reports are not correct

    5.  then your co-workers try to lead you astray to help build a “case against you”

6.. Yes at thermotron we treat you like FAMILY

thermotron we got-a- new liar running the ship

Call a spade a spade Thermotron management liar

    john May 4, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Call a spade a spade, and you will never be disrespected by colleages as long as your facts are correct.

What kind of kool-aid are you drinking?

I have the unfortunate ability to spot liars often immediately however this skill only serves to protect me.

When I say liarsI do not mean the average person who tells the occasional lie or a person who may tell more than occasional lies

but the extremely convincing, glib perfect liar who has no tells and is an expert at knowing what people want and how to give it to them.

When they are caught in a lie, they create a better lie to cover it or use their emotional power of manipulation to minimize it so those who know don’t care.

I have met several liars at the workplace, one who defrauded the company of thousands of dollars and took advantage of other co-workers and prior to that I informed all of my co-employees and the boss that he was an untrustworthy liar and I stated facts that proved my case yet they were ignored. In in other situations outside of work and the outcome was similar. People are animals; emotional creatures not rational and when you present the truth they ignore it.

Anyone can spot a normal liar but it is pathological or sociopathic liars that are rarely caught and unless you have evidence that can’t be ignored then don’t even bother.

You’ll look like an asshole and the liar will use their abilities to disparage your reputation.

  8. hey

Step One: Have Impossibly Refined Sensibilities

This is the most essential step to becoming an asshole, and probably the most difficult.

It requires an amount of study because you will need to know your field.

Faking is not an option; a fake will be held up as an object of scorn and as a pretentious moron, which is clearly not your objective.

I’d suggest specializing in a particular area, like food or music. While General Assholery is spectacularly impressive, it requires nearly a lifetime of study to properly attain.

Knowing your field means knowing it utterly; if you intend on being a Food Asshole, you’ll not need to be able to instantly tell the difference between a good Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey and an indifferent Puligny-Montrachet, you’ll need to be able to expound to your host or hostess on why the former would have been a much better choice to serve with dessert.

Step Two: Use Really Big Words

This is a much simpler step in your ascendance to Divine Asshole. All you’ll need for this is a thesaurus and a dictionary.

Take some common place words and replace them with obscure ones, instead of “beauty” say “pulchritude”, instead of “childish” say puerile.

Make certain that you are properly using your new obscure words; loudly correct anyone who uses them improperly.

Step Three: Choose Something To Hate

It doesn’t matter what, as long as it is something almost universally loved. Don’t hate the French if you’re English.

Don’t hate the Backstreet Boys or N’Sync, or you may be mistaken for a wit instead of an asshole. Whatever you do decide to hate, make sure you know enough about it to hate it properly, I’d suggest hating something in your field of expertise.

If you’re a Food Asshole, hate Italian Cuisine, if you’re a Music Asshole, try hating Mozart or The Beatles. Make sure that whatever you do hate, is common enough to come up in casual conversation; if you’re an Art Asshole, don’t hate Gustave Caillebotte, as it’s hard to bring conversation repeatedly around to lesser-known impressionists.

Step Four: Always Manage To Turn Conversation Around To You

No matter what the topic of conversation is about, make sure you play a starring role in it. If someone is complaining about their hateful and psychotic ex-boyfriend, tell them all about your evil ex, who was way more evil and psychotic then theirs. If you don’t have an ex, make one up.

If someone manages to mention something remotely related to your field of expertise, monopolize the conversation. If possible, turn the conversation back to the thing you chose to hate in Step Three and complain loudly about it.

Step Five: You Are Always Right, Be Secure In This

This is the culmination of your training as an asshole. Once you have mastered the first four steps, you are ready for this.

When someone decides to argue with you about the merits of the thing you hate in step 3, intellectually bludgeon them using the words you learned in step two.

This should not be especially difficult if the hated item is one in your area of expertise from step one. Resort to ad hominem attacks deriding your opponent’s intelligence.

Don’t be overly concerned about being clever, witty or eloquent; you are an asshole afterall, not a bitch. If you manage to win the argument either by logic and reason or by your opponent leaving in disgust; be an ungracious winner and taunt your fallen foe.

    Conclusion

If you carefully adhere to the above steps, you will be a Supreme Asshole in no time.

While you may not have many friends,

    you can be secure in the knowledge that being an asshole is always better than being a jerk or a loser;

they not only lack friends, they lack style. date a engineer at thermotron– smile

  9. ok sure

    At thermotron

Bob Wiley set the standard for a management style straight out of Hell–

Bob wiley said it was ok to lie to him about what was going on — and slander and defraud you co workers a little bit– so long as you didn’t get him in–trouble..

John TenBrink– always did this to his co workers– he would miss lead them and defraud them — and tell that he would “talk” to Good –old– Bob–

any one who exposed John Tenbrink as being drunk on the job– and falsifying their time and embezzling — he felt they were a backstabber– and they were supposted to “cover” for him–

Thomas Bannach went a bit farther down the road to Hell..

He said every one was the manager like him—

and That it is normal to lie, cheat, defraud, miss- lead, slander your co worker — and embezzle a little bit– because EVERY ONE HE KNOW IS LIKE THAT !!

SO, LYING CHEATING STEALING AND SLANDERING IS NORMAL,

Thomas bannach said that no one works for the money– just the opportunity–

BUT all the thieves and embezzlers had a different opinion

And you were supposted to tell every on that he sure is a nice guy

Clarity with Charity – A Meditation on the 8th Commandment

The Eighth Commandment, You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

proclaims the splendor and the beauty of the truth. It is not often that we hear of the truth described in this way but consider how precious and essential a foundation the truth is for our lives. One of the dangers, when it comes to commandments is that we see them merely as prohibitions.

So for example here, we might think, “OK, I’m not supposed to lie.”

Well, yes, but the Commandment is more than that!

It is an exhortation for us to love the truth, live the truth, and proclaim the truth.

Let’s look at some of the implications and distinctions regarding this Commandment.

    I. The first implication of the Eighth Commandment is that we should love the truth
, for it is of God and that we should seek to live the truth in our lives.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says,

Christians must be dedicated to the truth and live according to it. The Old Testament attests that God is the source of all truth. His Word is truth.

His Law is truth. His “faithfulness endures to all generations.”[

Ps 119:90; Prov 8:7; 2 Sam 7:28; Ps 119:142] Since God is “true,” the members of his people are called to live in the truth.

To follow Jesus is to live in “the Spirit of truth,” whom the Father sends in his name and who leads “into all the truth.”[Jn 16:13] To his disciples Jesus teaches the unconditional love of truth: “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes or No.’”[Mt 5:37] (Catechism 2465, 2466).

So, we are to witness to it by word and deed. This is particularly the case with the truth of our faith, the truth which has set us free.

This witness is a transmission of the faith in words and deeds. Witness is an act of justice that establishes the truth or makes it known. All Christians by the example of their lives and the witness of their word, wherever they live, have an obligation to manifest the new man which they have put on in Baptism and to reveal the power of the Holy Spirit by whom they were strengthened at Confirmation.
    (Catechism 2472)

    II. Put away falsehood –
Scripture bids us, Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (Eph 4:22-25) So the Eighth Commandment upholds the goodness and beauty of the truth, exhorts us to celebrate it and instructs that we must avoid all sins against the truth. There are numerous ways that the we can sin against the truth. It will be fruitful for us to consider them each in turn, along with some distinctions.

    III. False Witness

    – Nothing can be so injurious to individuals as to harm their good name or reputation.

Without a good reputation it becomes difficult for an individual to successfully relate to and interact with others whether it be for business or merely at a personal level.

Clearly, to bear false witness against someone is to harm their reputation and we are forbidden to do so.

In the technical sense, false witness is something which takes place in a court of law and since it is under oath it is also called perjury.

But it is also often the case that false witness is given in daily matters through lies, half truths, exaggeration, and the like. Clearly our call to love the truth and to respect the reputation of others forbids us engaging in such activities.

Respect for the reputation of others also forbids us from:

    A. Rash judgement – assuming without sufficient foundation the moral fault of a neighbor

    B. Detraction – disclosing an other’s faults and failings without a valid reason to others who did not know them

    C. Calumny – imputing false defects to another with the knowledge that they are false.
Yet it is also possible to offend the truth by

    D. Inappropriately praising others

    E. By refusing to correct them when it is proper to do so.

    F. Flattery distorts the truth when it falsely attributes certain good qualities or talents to another. This is usually done to ingratiate oneself to individuals or for some other ulterior motive(s).

Such behavior becomes particularly sinful when it confirms another in malicious acts or sinful conduct.
    I

    V. Lying

    – A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of deceiving…Lying is the most direct offense against the truth. To lie is to speak or act against the truth in order to lead into error someone who has the right to know the truth.
    B

y injuring man’s relation to truth and to his neighbor, a lie offends against the fundamental relation of man and of his word to the Lord…The Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil: “You are of your father the devil, . . . there is no truth in him….he is a liar and the father of lies.” [Jn 8:44]….

By its very nature, lying is to be condemned. It is a profanation of speech, whereas the purpose of speech is to communicate known truth to others. The deliberate intention of leading a neighbor into error by saying things contrary to the truth constitutes a failure in justice and charity…

A lie does real violence to another. It affects his ability to know, which is a condition of every judgment and decision…Lying is destructive of society; it undermines trust…and tears apart the fabric of social relationships
    . (Catechism 2482-2485)

Acts of lying are sins from which we must repent. Lying is also a sin that demands reparation. That is to say, since lying causes actual harm and real damage. These damages must be repaired. The actual truth must be made known to those who deserve to know it. The reputations of others which have been harmed by the lie must also be restored.

    V. Is lying always so evil?

The gravity of a lie is measured against the nature of the truth it deforms, the circumstances, the intentions of the one who lies, and the harm suffered by its victims. (Catechism 2484). Thus there are big lies and smaller ones. Nevertheless, it is always wrong to intentionally lie.

This includes so called “polite lies.” For example suppose a phone call comes in for someone in the household who has indicated a preference not to be disturbed just now. It is a lie to say, “She is not here.” Yet you could say, “She is not available now.” Other social situations are less simple! For example, if Mrs. Smith asks you, “Do you like my new hairstyle?” Suppose you do not. It is in fact wrong to say, “Yes, I like it.” Granted, we all feel a bit stuck in such situations! Perhaps we could answer truthfully but discreetly and say, “You look alright.” (Presuming that we do think so).

But wouldn’t it be nice if we actually felt secure enough either to indicate, charitably, our true feelings or to indicate our preference not to answer the question? Wouldn’t it be even nicer if our relationships with others were so based in sincerity and truth, that people both gave and expected honest answers? It is to this blessed state that the Lord points when he says, Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ (Mt 5:37).

    VI. What about secrets?

    – This reflection has thus far emphasized the goodness and the splendor of the truth as well as the importance of communicating that truth to others who need it. However, as the Catechism states:

The right to the communication of the truth is not unconditional..Fraternal love…requires us in concrete situations to judge whether or not it is appropriate to reveal the truth to someone who asks for it. The good and safety of others, respect for privacy, and the common good are sufficient reasons for being silent about what ought not be known or for making use of a discreet language.

The duty to avoid scandal often commands strict discretion. No one is bound to reveal the truth to someone who does not have the right to know it…Everyone should observe an appropriate reserve concerning persons’ private lives.

Those in charge of communications should maintain a fair balance between the requirements of the common good and respect for individual rights.
Interference by the media in the private lives of persons engaged in political or public activity is to be condemned to the extent that it infringes upon their privacy and freedom.
    (

    Catechism 2488, 2489, 2492)

However, the fact that we are permitted, even obliged, to keep certain secrets and maintain discretion, does not mean that we are free simply to lie. For example we cannot say, “I don’t know anything about that” if we do. Neither can we make up false answers to requested information. When we must decline to give information that is properly to be kept secret, we must still remain truthful. We might say instead, “I am not free to discuss this matter with you now.” Or, “It would be inappropriate for me to comment on that.” Or,

“Why don’t you ask him yourself?” Occasionally we may need to be more direct and say,

“This is a private matter and not for you to know.”

    VII. Are all secrets sacred?

    – Thus secrecy and discretion are often proper. Here too however, absolutes must be avoided. Sometimes we are asked to keep secrets that we should not keep. For example, suppose someone confides in you that they intend to commit a serious crime, or bring harm to another? It would be wrong to keep such a secret.

Other things being equal secrets ought to be kept, save in exceptional cases where keeping the secret is bound to cause very grave harm to the one who confided it, to the one who received it, or to a third party, and where the very grave harm can be avoided only by divulging the truth. (Catechism 2491).

An exception to this is the seal of confession which may never be violated for any reason whatsoever: The sacramental seal is inviolable; therefore, it is a crime for a confessor in any way to betray a penitent by word or in any other manner or for any reason. (Catechism 2490).

VIII. On the Manner of speaking the truth

    – That the truth should be celebrated and declared is surely an essential truth. However, one must not sever the declaration of truth from charity. An old Latin Motto says, veritatem in caritate (the truth, in charity). For the truth without love can bludgeon, or it can be something we use only to win an argument. Further, love without truth, is mere affirmation of others in often destructive tendencies, and really not love at all.

Yes, the truth should be spoken, but always in love. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). An older priest once told me, “If your people really know you love them, you can tell them almost anything, even the hardest truths, and they will accept it.

Further truth often has a time it is best revealed. Jesus said, I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. (John 16:12-13) Where there is time, we often do well to lead people patiently, to the deeper truths in stages.

    IX. Final thought

Jesus has taught us that the truth will set us free (Jn 8:32). If this be the case then anything which distorts the truth leads to bondage. Thus the eighth commandment calls upon us to love the truth and to love one another by proclaiming the truth and witnessing to it in sincerity with mutual respect and love.

Here is an amazing illusion, a kind of visual “lie.” It is not a lie per se, since the illusionist makes it clear he is creating an illusion, and invites, dares, us to discover how he misleads our eyes. I must say this is a VERY good illusion

How can I become an asshole in five easy steps?

    Introduction

Have you ever thought that deep down you really were not a nice person? If no, this guide probably is not for you.

If yes, congratulations, you’re well on your way to becoming an Asshole!

If you follow these easy steps, you will be able to ensure that people think of you as an asshole, and not as a mere jerk, putz, loser or boor.

    Featured Videos

    1. The Simpsons – Donut Hell

Homer sells his soul to the devil for a donut and is sent to the ironic punishment

While you may not have many friends,

    you can be secure in the knowledge that being an asshole is always better than being a jerk or a loser;

they not only lack friends, they lack style.

Bugsy was a textbook sociopath. He took what he wanted when he wanted it and the emotion of remorse was alien to him.

In his mind, other people were there to be used by him, which was demonstrated by his long record of robbery, rape and murder dating back to his teenage years.

In gangster circles, the nickname “Bugsy” is often a term of endearment or honor. It is given out to those racketeers who show no fear in sticky situations or who are willing to step up to jobs that others are afraid to take.

Bugsy Siegel earned the nickname early on in his criminal career because of his tendency to “go bugs” whenever he was angered or thwarted.

It was an appellation that he strongly disliked and anyone who used the nickname to his face risked certain bodily harm.

Siegel preferred that his friends call him Ben. If you weren’t his friend, “Mr. Siegel” would do just fine.
“When we were in a fight Benny would never hesitate,” Meyer Lansky once said. “He was even quicker to take action than those hot-blooded Sicilians, the first to start punching and shooting. Nobody reacted faster than Benny.”

    Great post!

I have a Vice President who tells us a daily lie in order to prove a point. For the love of God I cannot understand why! Now he is on a “Leadership” kick and he wants us to be better leaders for our salesmen.

How can someone lead when his leader is misleading him everyday he walks into the office?

Better yet, our CEO eats up his lies continues to back him in every situation when the entire time we are having a massive retention issue and he cannot figure out why.

Honesty is always the best policy, but how do you deal with compulsive liars who don’t care how much damage their lies really cause?

I love this song and the setting on a train. So few in America have the please of rattling or speeding along, enjoying looking out the windows and being with friends or family. The line, “Well, it’s all right even if your old and gray. You still got something to say.” sang by George Harrison rings true.

Thermotron Pay is a bit below industry standards but so are the people they hire,

The top management is ridiculously incompetent

Decent place to learn and grow.

Extremely incompetent management, great career potential and to learn the trade but once you reach a certain point, the learning stops since you are surrounded by fools and it is the blind leading the blind.

Pay is a bit below industry standards but so are the people they hire, so one could say that it is justified.

Overall, satisfied but you must move on when it’s time to move on. Learn, contribute and then move on to greener pastures.

The top management is ridiculously incompetent, the middle management is frustrated though probably more competent and the rest make up the numbers, including yours truly.

knee jerk company the processes followed are shocking to say the least with no eye towards customer satisfaction..

but then again, this is a crib with the services industry and is definitely not going to change any opinions.

Whose side is God [god] on?

I suspect that a most common response might be: “mine” or “ours.”

Each faith and every group holds to their claim on God – god as “their own.”

Few if any groups or sects seem willing to share their possession of “their God – gods” with other faiths or sets of beliefs;

by which I mean to say: are willing to freely extend ownership to others of the very same God – gods they hold as their primary God -gods with other, holding onto differing belief-systems.

[yes, I do understand a willingness to share so long as they  accept MY beliefs].

And yes; everyone; even atheist and agnostics have their “own gods“.

Pride, Lust, Greed, Wealth and Power, along with Sexuality, & Pornography are in there own way “gods” to a great many people. As ones’ God-god’s tend to influence who and what we are; who and what we choose to be, and have a huge influence, even if not holding outright control of our thoughts and actions.

I hold that this fact is undeniable.

Even within the realm of “christianity” there seems to be [must be?] multiple God’s.

This is provable by the thousands of differing sets  of “christian”  faith -beliefs.

Yet truth is singular,

 so either there is just “One True” God, with His One set of True Faith beliefs;

or Christianities God is just “another god” among many other man-made; man chosen gods?

How can one know this?

Because even simple logic ought to lead everyone to know and understand, and conclude that each “God” or [god]” must have it’s own set of beliefs. Can any God [god] hold differing views [often even contradictory] on the same defined issue?

No; this is simply an impossibility. Except of course for the New Ager’s”  who’s common claim is “it’s only TRUE if I say it’s true.” Still, Simple Logic denies this philosophy of self-interest being the only right judge, and  holds that [any]

“One God – god” can and does hold only One view per defined issue as being the “truth of that defined issue;” because truth itself is and must always be  only singular. Saying otherwise; even choosing otherwise, cannot and does not alter this reality.

So, “whose side is God-god” on?

God is on God’s gods side. It can’t be any other way.

What does this do to YOUR understanding of “your God-god?”  being “The True God?”

“Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why then doth every one of us despise his brother, violating the covenant of our fathers?

“And Jesus answered him: The first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord thy God is one God.”

    Acts 15
    New International Version (NIV)

    The Council at Jerusalem
Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe

. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.

9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?

28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:

29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.

You will do well to avoid these things.

If you do not have the correct understanding of God’s word and then preach your beliefs to another you will lead them to false beliefs.
– seeker of truth

Only a teacher can teach a pupil. Self-teaching is impossible because the would-be aspirant lacks the lower [basic] development. Only somebody who has walked the path [tariqa, way] knows the path. And because he/she HAS walked that path be can lead the obedient aspirant.
– Thief37

Everyone who does not understand and teaches is a murderer, for you take the very everlasting life that a person could have attained. You work iniquity, and whoever you teach will follow. Both of you will taste death.
– Random

Sure, the blind may tag along with those who see (they’re called “disciples”), but they’re still blind and in no qualified position to lead other blind people around, regardless of assertions that they can see perfectly fine.

Scholarly Quotes

Robert M. Grant and David Noel Freedman write: “This saying is derived from Matthew 15:14; for its substance is presented as a question in Luke 6:39. It follows Saying 34, because the mention of ‘light’ in that saying leads Thomas to think of sight or the lack of it.” (The Secret Sayings of Jesus, p. 151)

Funk and Hoover write: “This saying has the earmarks of a proverb. As prudential wisdom, it would be appropriate on the lips of almost any sage and it could have entered the tradition at almost any point.” (The Five Gospels, p. 492)

THURSDAY, APRIL 7,

“I couldn’t care less

you devise evil against another in your heart / “I couldn’t care less

9″Thus says the LORD of hosts,(A) Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, 10(B) do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner,(C) or the poor, and(D) let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”

Cross references:
A.Zechariah 7:9 : Isa 1:17; Jer 21:12; Mic 6:8; Matt 23:23
B.Zechariah 7:10 : Isa 1:23; Jer 5:28; Exodus 22:21, 22
C.Zechariah 7:10 : Prov 22:22
D.Zechariah 7:10 : Zechariah 8:17

“Thus says the LORD (YAWAH) of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor,

I could care less about YOU.

Okay, we hear it quite often, but it should be “I couldn’t care less,” not “I could care less.”

The former indicates an apathy than cannot be exceeded. The latter, however, expresses a certain level of caring by plainly stating that the one could care less than he or she does, but the person does indeed care.

So, on a scale of 0 to 10, their caring is somewhere above a 0 (zero). That person’s caring may be at a 4 or 5 or a 2 or even a 1. But, the person still cares, unlike the person who couldn’t care less. That person is at the lowest point possible on the caring meter.

In other words, the vast majority of people misuse the expression and wind up stating the opposite of what they’d like to communicate.

I know it’s hip to be apathetic, but please don’t be so apathetic that you’re apathetic about the proper use of expressions of apathy.
Labels: rhetoric

and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”

Perilous Times with L.A. Marzulli

ok

Then the word of the Lord came to me: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,

and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.

And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, 10 and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will relent of the good that I had intended to do to it.

11 Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem:

‘Thus says the Lord, Behold, I am shaping disaster against you and devising a plan against you. Return, every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your deeds.’

12 “But they say, ‘That is in vain! We will follow our own plans, and will every one act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.’
13 “Therefore thus says the Lord:
Ask among the nations,
Who has heard the like of this?
The virgin Israel
has done a very horrible thing.
14 Does the snow of Lebanon leave
    the crags of Sirion?[a]
Do the mountain waters run dry,[b]
    the cold flowing streams?
15 But my people have forgotten me;
    they make offerings to false gods;
they made them stumble in their ways,
    in the ancient roads,
and to walk into side roads,
    not the highway,
16 making their land a horror,
a thing to be hissed at forever.
Everyone who passes by it is horrified
    and shakes his head.
17 Like the east wind I will scatter them
    before the enemy.
I will show them my back, not my face,
in the day of their calamity.”
18 Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.”
19 Hear me, O Lord,
and listen to the voice of my adversaries.

20 Should good be repaid with evil?

Yet they have dug a pit for my life.
Remember how I stood before you
    to speak good for them,
to turn away your wrath from them.
21 Therefore deliver up their children to famine;
    give them over to the power of the sword;
let their wives become childless and widowed.
May their men meet death by pestilence,
their youths be struck down by the sword in battle.
22 May a cry be heard from their houses,
when you bring the plunderer suddenly upon them!
For they have dug a pit to take me
and laid snares for my feet.
23 Yet you, O Lord, know
all their plotting to kill me.
Forgive not their iniquity,
nor blot out their sin from your sight.
Let them be overthrown before you;
deal with them in the time of your anger.

Candle Add a message to the Guest Book July 03, 2013 It’s been awhile since Joyce’s passing. I still think of her often, and I still miss her. I know of others who loved Joyce, as well, and we still

speak so very fondly of her. We speak of her sense of humor, and her compassion. Most often we speak about how we wish Joyce was still with us, and how we know what Joyce would say if she was. And we find much comfort in that. We share about how sometimes we are out and about and we see someone with a cute, short, blonde bobbed haircut, and we think it is her. I

do feel Joyce with me, often, and I’m grateful for that. I loved her very much. ~ Denise R., San Jose June 12, 2011 Joyce was my counselor during the Pine Hill years when I was in junior high and a little of high school, and then off and on after that.

I learned that she passed in 2008 but was not sure where this site was. My Dad who she knew passed away in 2009 (former Mayor Bob Browne of Milpitas, non-hodgskins lymphoma). A lot of stuff was going on at the time. I remember her tiny striped kitty that was so small. She was a no-nonsense, personable and smart individual which as a child I didn’t really get, or respect entirely, but I was a teenager. She was the voice of the SELF class teachers. (1983-87). Now she has gone where no one has gone before.

She is missed.

Also her Transformer name was Joyce-beak after the condor robot, Laserbeak. 🙂 Adam Mayer Browne, struggling science fiction writer, journalist, etc. Pine Hill, class of 1989 Evergreen College, class of 94 San Jose State University, BA English, 98, BS, journalism, 08. PS. I think I met Gail or Donna in 1986. Hi. ~ Adam Browne, Milpitas, California Contact Me September 14, 2007 Dear Palmer Family, I just wanted you to know that we continue to think of you all. May God continue to bring you peace, Love, The Tomassi Family ~ Andrea Tomassi, Fremont, California Contact Me May 22, 2007 I was shocked to find out about Joyces passing. My heart goes out to her family and close friends.

She was a very special lady!!!!

I saw Joyce from 1993-1999 off and on for my divorce. She help me out of co-dependency on others and help me to depend on myself emotionally and financially. I was recently trying to get hold of her to tell her about my re-marriage, which she helped convince me to put off until I was ready. She would be happy to know I waited 12 yrs.

I will always be indebted to her for saving me.

She will always be with me in my heart and soul. It was such an honor to have known her. ~ Denise Falconio, Cameron Park, California Contact Me May 13, 2007 Joyce, Remembering you today on this very special day and always. Memories of you come into my mind so often. As I scroll through my phone and your name shows up, I just can’t hit the delete button, as my son talks of you and cries for you, As I’m struggling with a tough decision or just need to talk to you. It brings me such saddness that I just can’t pick up the telephone and call you. I then go to my peaceful place where I keep telling myself….it’s not a forever thing! I WILL see you again, although maybe not soon enough for me, I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN! We finally told Angelo of your death, on what just happened to be on your Birthday. We miss you terribly and think of you often! I love you. ~ Andrea Tomassi, Fremont, California Contact Me January 19, 2007 Gail, Donna, Grant, Nancy, Joya and Miles, How special to read about so many lives touched by your Mom/Grandma. She will live on in so many hearts.

With all of our deepest sympathy, Tom, Julie, Andrew and Allison ~ Tom Major, Aliso Viejo, California Contact Me January 17, 2007 Dear Gail, Donna & Grant, I met your Mother somewhere around 1992. My husband and I were married only four years at that time. Joyce has helped us through many difficult times and sorrows over years.

My husband and I have three kids and will be married 19 years this May.

Joyce has played a huge part over the last 15 years in our marriage, our other personal relationships and those of our children. Our eight year old son was especially close to your Mother. In his own words he wrote in a card to your Mother (mailed the day after New Years), that he felt she was part of his family. It saddens me that she was never able to read the card he wrote. I hope that somehow she already new. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you what a wonderful woman she was, you all know better than any of us. But I did want to share a few funny stories with you that she has shared with us over the years. They are truly examples of the unselfish, extrordinary, wonderful woman she will always be remembered as. One particular week my son saw Joyce, she was so proud of his progress that week, she said she was going to do something for him she hadn’t done in about five years. It was something called the “HAPPY DANCE”.

She expained that it was a dance she and her brother made up when they were little, and continued the tradition today whenever they saw each other. It consisted of a “whoo, whoo” and waiving her hands in the air like the ‘hokey pokey’ then shaking her hips from left to right. It was the funniest thing I ever saw.

I remember my son fell to the ground in laughter. Joyce and I couldn’t stop laughing either. That’s exactly how she was. She was always able to get to down to his level and relate to him, it’s just one of the traits that made her so unique. On another occassion, she said she didn’t have time that week to run to Target to re-supply her prize box.

So she said she was going to do something she had never done for anyone before.

She grabbed her purse and opened up her wallet and handed my son a single dollar bill. If I had only known then the significance of that single dollar bill, I would of had him keep it and never would have had him spend it. Another story she told me was when she was really little. If I remember correctly, she said she was about three or four years old. She used to spend a lot of time with her cousins. On one particular occasion, they all had to walk down the stairs to the basement with sand pails full of coal for the heater. She said the boys would always tease her because her pail had the least amount to carry. She joked because she said she was so little and couldn’t carry as much as they could, and they were so much older. Donna, she was so excited about planning your 40th birthday party. It’s all she talked about weeks before your birthday last year. She told me about the frames everyone received to put the pictures in everyone took with you that night.

She said the theme would be purple as that was your favorite color. Gail, your Mom always told me what a huge help you were to her and that she couldn’t have done it without you. Grant & Nancy, Joyce loved to talk about Joya and Miles.

She told me about the little game she played with Joya each time she came over. It went something like this…..Grandma knocks on the door, “Grandma’s here”, so Joya runs and hides. Joyce comes in and says, “Where are you?”, and as a little girl would say, not realizing she’s giving away her hiding spot in her response….”Here I am Grandma, under the kitchen table, come find me”. How precious! Whenever she talked about the kids her face would just light up. She would share all the cute little things the kids would say, I wish I could remember all of them, there were so many.

The article you wrote about your Mom in the Mercury News, defined her so well, as with the stories above, all can see that her family was the most important thing to her.

Your Mother touched so many lives. In just reading the entries in this guest book, you realize the significance.

I cannot imagine the number of lives and difference she has made in the lives of the people and familes she has touched over the years. Please know that her love, words of wisdom and life lessons taught shall live on in all who she has deeply touched.

We are all truly blessed and honored to have known her.

Please accept our sympathy and know that our family continues to pray daily for each of you, that the Lord will wrap his tender hands around your family during this dificult time. Should you ever need anything from us, please don’t hesitate to conact me. Respectfully, ~ Andrea Tomassi, Fremont, California Contact Me January 16, 2007 I just learned of Joyce’s passing over the weekend and was naturally saddened to hear the news. I met Joyce many years ago and enjoyed my time spent with her. I learned a lot about myself through my experiences with her and I will be eternally grateful. She was a wonderful person and I felt a real sense of warmth and genuine concern from her when I was dealing with my own struggles in life. I will always remember her for her sweet and caring nature.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Palmer family. She is already missed. ~ Heather Gabel, Mountain View, California Contact Me January 16, 2007 Dear Gail, Donna, Grant, Nancy and Grandbabies, You are all such a loving, living tribute to your mom and grandmother! Over the many years we have been friends and neighbors, your mother’s kindness, sense of humor and genuine concern for others was so endearing to me and my family.

She shared her wisdom and experience readily as a counselor and yet never stopped her own growth and development. Her life was extraordinary, full of thoughtful and proud reflection on rearing her dear family, increasing her own intellectual understanding and contributing that knowledge to others both personally and professionally.

I really cherish the special times we shared and miss her presence on Larchwood Drive. It is comforting to know that through you she will continue to inspire goodness in our world.

You are important members of our Larchwood community and I love you all. In His love, Ann Smeltzer – See more at: http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/mercurynews/guestbook.aspx?n=joyce-palmer&pid=85948552&page=2#sthash.SlUcC69p.dpuf
